Thirteen years ago, on June 15, 2012, I took a leap of faith and founded Hearts at Home Pet Sitting, determined to bring compassionate, professional in-home pet care to Yorktown and its environs. As I celebrate this anniversary, I’m filled with gratitude for every pet and family who has trusted me and my team with their beloved companions. Today, we’re celebrating Hearts at Home Pet Sitting’s 13 Years of Loving Care in Coastal Virginia!
The Idea Behind Hearts at Home Pet Sitting
My journey began with a deep passion for animals and a conviction that pets deserve to feel secure, comfortable, and loved, even when their owners are away. I’ve always believed that education is the foundation of exceptional care, so I made it a priority to become certified in Pet CPR and First Aid and to ensure my team receives ongoing training in animal behavior and safety. Every pet is unique, and I want each visit to reflect the individual needs and personalities of the animals we care for.

One of the philosophies closest to my heart is Fear Free pet care. I know firsthand how stressful changes in routine or new environments can be for pets. That’s why I became Fear Free Certified and made it a core value at Hearts at Home. We tailor every visit to minimize anxiety, whether it’s giving pets time to approach us, respecting pets’ boundaries, or speaking in a low, gentle tone. We strive to keep the pets in our care comfortable during our interactions, and our understanding of Fear Free principles makes that possible.

At Hearts at Home Pet Sitting, our goal is always to keep pets happy and stress-free in the comfort of their own homes, allowing their true personalities to shine. We simultaneously strive to put pet parents at ease, allowing them to travel, work, and meet life’s many demands with the knowledge that their beloved pet family is in excellent hands.
Furthermore, Hearts at Home is about building relationships with pets, their families, and the incredible community of pet lovers here in Coastal Virginia. Community involvement has always been a cornerstone of our business. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting local animal welfare initiatives, participating in community events, and cheering on fellow pet professionals.

From the outset, I have been passionate about elevating the pet care industry, and my passion has only intensified over the years. I’m proud to be an active member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, the Pet Professional Guild, and Pet Sitters International. These organizations set the bar for professionalism and ethics in our industry, and being part of them keeps me connected to the latest best practices and a network of dedicated colleagues.
I enjoy traveling to pet industry conferences because doing so keeps me informed of all the excellent strides we’re making in our industry. From technology to species-specific learning, the more I participate in our industry, the better I can serve you, your pets, and our team.
Celebrating 13 Years of Loving Care in Coastal Virginia
I’m humbled by how far Hearts at Home has come. We’ve cared for countless pets in Yorktown, Poquoson, Newport News, and Hampton, Virginia. Each pet has left a paw print on my heart. And, as I celebrate this milestone, I’m more committed than ever to providing the highest standard of care, continuing my education, and giving back to the community that has supported me from the very beginning.
